Stephen King - SHUT UP!

Sun Sep 20, 2009, 2:16 PM
  • Mood: Rant
  • Listening to: "Rubbernecking" Keane
  • Reading: ... :'D
  • Watching: Secondhand Lions <3
  • Eating: Bloody effing steak!
  • Drinking: Water
Have you ever read his book On Writing? I just finished it and let me tell you... I can't write an effing thing now. It was like having the worlds largest critic sink his way into my mind and stare at me 24 hours a day.

I'm going to photocopy my butt and send it to him in the mail.

What is wrong with saying
----"Although it was well made, it itched"?
----"We were not allowed"?
Or using passive voice because it would actually be more appropriate?!
-------"I was being cast out" (Use of passive voice is more appropriate being when one is cast out, they are helpless and DO ACT RATHER PASSIVELY.)

I understand that there are a lot of times when passive voice is just plain dumb. I agree with his example that saying "the dead body was dragged into the living room" is pretty stupid. I agree that instead it should be "they dragged the dead body onto the couch".

BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT PASSIVE VOICE IS EVIL.

Take my tip all ye writers out there - avoid using passive voice when it is just not necessary. But when it is actually more appropriate to use, USE IT. Screw those jerks with the blue pens!

P.S. - IT DIDN'T MAKE ITSELF! IT WAS MADE (So be eaten by me, whore)

P.P.S. - My mom is trying to turn me into a vegetarian. She has now got it into her head that meat is not only the devil, but is really bad for you. I HAS A BIG BLOODY STEAK AND IMMA EATIN' ALL!
